Education on professional boundaries and professional authority is crucial for individuals in various fields. It typically involves understanding ethical guidelines, maintaining confidentiality, respecting limits in relationships, and recognizing the scope of one’s expertise.
in this workshop, we will explore case studies using role-playing scenarios to apply knowledge and practice navigating collegial professional boundaries in a learning environment. This education helps professionals navigate complex situations with integrity and ensures the safety and well-being of those they serve.
OBJECTIVES
1. Recognise appropriate boundaries in professional relationships and the potential impact of transgressing collegial boundaries.
2. Understand principles of ethics and why they are so integral to collegial boundaries (decision-making and behaviour)
3. Understand power differentials and dynamics within professional relationships and developing own professional authority to avoid misuse of authority and to challenge misuse of authority
4. Define and acknowledge the limits of professional expertise, encouraging a humble and responsible approach to knowledge and skills.
5. Develop effective communication skills to enhance professional authority to establish and maintain collegial boundaries
6. Explore strategies for handling challenging situations where collegial boundaries may be tested or unclear.
7. Discuss relevant laws and regulations about professional conduct and collegial relationships.
