Complex Trauma – Understanding the Link Between Childhood Trauma and Mental Illness: Alternative Approaches to Clinical Practice
Safety is a priority when working with clients who have developed a number of strategies in childhood to manage their sense of feeling and being unsafe. This 2 day workshop introduces participants to a number of techniques from psychodrama which can be creatively used in the work they do with clients who have a history of complex trauma.
Objectives:
By attending this workshop, participants will:
- Gain understanding about psychological, emotional, physical and spiritual impact of complex trauma
- Increase awareness about the link between trauma and mental illness (research from neuroscience)
- Understand the relationship between mental illness and trauma
- Describe the importance and influence of the stress system in terms of psychological trauma and mental illness
- Identify strategies to utilise when working with individuals who have a history of complex trauma
- Identify own coping strategies when working with individuals who have a history of complex trauma
